PANAJI: Dalgado Konknni Akademi is organizing a screenplay writing workshop on April 24 to mark the Konkani Cinema Day at Ravindra Bhavan, Curchorem. Darmanand Vernekar, a renowned filmmaker and producer, will be the resource person. The aim of the workshop is to help Konkani film makers to improve their screenplay writing skills as well as to give a boost to budding screenplay writers for Konkani film making.
An open session with Vernekar will also be held later, which will be moderated by William Fernandes. The Akademi is celebrating April 24 as Konkani Cinema Day to commemorate the first screening of the Konkani film 'Mogacho Anvddo' by Al-Jerry Braganza. Talk on obesity: For its Friday Health Talk on April 11, the International Centre Goa is hosting an interactive session on 'Health & Beauty: special focus on Obesity & Beauty' by experts Asha Arondekar, Wellishia D'Sa, Sonia Parab & Swati Jani from VLCC - Panaji. The talk will begin at 6 pm and is open to the public.

Ambedkar birth anniversary celebrations: Dalit Sanghatana, Panaji, in collaboration with Institute Menezes Braganza, will celebrate the birth anniversary of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar on April 14 from 4.30pm onwards at Institute Menezes Braganza, Panaji. The chief guest will be Dr Prafulla Hede, industrialist, and pioneer of the cooperative movement Milind Kerkar will be a special invitee. Dr H Y Karapurkar, silent crusader of the dalit cause, will be felicitated as 'Dalit Mitra' at the hands of the chief guest. Souvenir 'Watchal' will be released.
Workshop in music and arts: Directorate of Art and Culture, Panaji, in collaboration with St Thomas Higher Secondary School, Aldona, will be conducting a 10-day workshop for students and adults in music and the arts. The workshop will be held from April 15 at the school premises from 10am to 12pm. Interested may contact the school office on 2293812, 9765322610, 9049018214. Also, month-long courses will be held during the morning hours from April 15 to May 15 in wushu, basketball, football, drums, guitar and keyboard by professionals and local artists. Suchitra Sen film festival: Suchitra Sen film festival organized by the ESG, in collaboration with Ganga Zuari Academy, is being held at Entertainment Society of Goa till April 13. Acclaimed films of Suchitra Sen like 'Bombai Ka Babu', 'Aatmiyo Swajan', 'Aandhi', 'Guerrilla' and 'Lal Tip' will be screened at Maquinez Palace-Audi I. All films will have English subtitles. Access to the screenings will be free and on first-come-first-serve basis.
Free eye check-up: As part of the Netra Deep Campaign, IMA-Goa will conduct a free eye check-up on April 13 at Xeldem High School Hall, Xeldem-Quepem. Registrations will take place from 9am to 12pm. Spectacles, medication and treatment will be provided free, it is sponsored by CIPLA, Goa medical college and Mukta Opticians.
Spanish film screening cancelled: Spanish Centre of Parvatibai Chowgule College of Arts and Science, Margao, has cancelled the screening of the Spanish feature film 'Voces Inocentes' scheduled for April 12 as it is election day and the institute will be closed. Workshop for primary teachers: The organization Sethu will host 'A Classier Class Act 2014', a workshop for primary teachers to stimulate learning and understand behaviour in the classroom. The workshop will be held from April 21 to 24. A Classier Class Act will cover the topics: Focused classroom management, helping the child with special needs, phonological awareness and its links to literacy, how to teach phonics and reading, building readers through classroom libraries and understanding childhood sexuality. The resource persons are Nandita de Souza, developmental & behavioural pediatrician, Anjali Nunes, speech & language therapist; Patricia Lopes, teacher and autism interventionist; Andre Velho, behaviour therapist; Liz Kemp, community artist and the Bookworm team. The program will be interactive, including group discussions, lectures and practical exercises. The workshop will be held at Nalanda Hall, EDC Building, above Co-optex, Panaji, from 9am to 5pm daily for four days. The registration fee will include the cost of tea and training materials. French film screening: Alliance Française Panjim will screen the French film 'The Murderer lives at number 21' on April 11 at 6.30pm. The film by Henri-George Cluzot will have English subtitles and screening will be free for AF members. Non-members can also attend.
Language skills: Communicare Trust will hold summer courses in basic conversational German starting from April 14 at Dona Paula. Basic conversation French classes will begin on April 15. For details call on 9850951505. There are limited seats available.
Sri Sri Institute's convocation ceremony: Sri Sri Institute of Management Studies (SSIMS), Margao will host its seventh annual convocation on April 12 at Nanu Resort, Betalbatim. Chief guest and keynote speaker will be Vipin Sondhi, MD and CEO, JCB India Ltd. Sondhi is an alumnus of the prestigious Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. 'India Untouched' to be screened: People Tree, in collaboration with Video Volunteers, will screen 'India Untouched', a film directed by Stalin K, on April 14, at People Tree, 6, Assagao, Bardez. The screening will be followed by an interactive session with the director. It is part of a series of socially conscious films that are being screened at People Tree.
