MERVYN ELIAS WATKINS

Mervyn Elias Watkins, 72, passed away, Saturday, April 5, 2014. He was born May 29, 1941, in Bulawayo, Rhodesia.

After meeting his wife Sybil, Mervyn moved to Cape Town, South Africa. He worked in the family business until emigrating with his wife and three children in 1978 to Houston, where he worked for many years at Finger Furniture.

He had a passion for gardening, old movies, cooking, but most of all, he loved his family, especially his granddaughters. Mervyn was known for his ability to make any person he met feel comfortable and special. Throughout a long and protracted illness he never complained and always remained cheerful. His laugh would light up a room.

Mervyn is survived by his loving wife, Sybil; his children, Vicky Watkins, Hayley and Yair Kol and Jonathan Watkins. He also is survived by his two grandchildren, Mika and Taya Kol.

Graveside services were held on Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at Beth Jacob Cemetery with Rabbi Barry Gelman officiating.
