The gun went off during an event hosted by the National Rifle Association and the Bethlehem Police Department, said Bethlehem police Deputy Chief Todd Repsher in a report from NJ.com

Repsher said the incident was handled by local police already on the scene who called medical crews and had the man taken to a local hospital where his injuries were found to be non-life threatening.

The NRA has not commented on the irony.
