SURAT: Five nomination papers of four candidates contesting from
Surat parliamentary constituency were cancelled on Thursday upon scrutiny by the returning officer, leaving now eight in the fray for the general elections to be held on April 30.
The nominations papers of those cancelled were Kanu Mavani of BJP, Raju Godhani, Natvar Parmar and Majid Khasim. Parmar had submitted nomination papers both as an independent and a dummy candidate of Janata Dal (United).
The candidates in the fray now are Darshana Jardosh of BJP, Naishad Desai of Congress, Mohan Patel of AAP, Kishore Vasava of JD(U), Omprakash Shrivastav of BSP, Kirit Vasani of Yuva Sarkar Party and independents- Mukesh Ambaliya and Mavji Sandis.
Meanwhile, Naishad Desai, Mohan Patel and Kishore Vasava filed fresh affidavits on Wednesday, the last day of filing of nominations as they had left a few columns blank in their original affidavits, sources said. tnn
