Life as a TV actor is quite comfortable: Abhishek Rawat
LUCKNOW CALLING Actor Abhishek Rawat is back to his favourite city, Lucknow. Even though he wasn't born here, Lucknow is still special for Abhishek. “My nanihal is in Nirala Nagar and now my parents have picked up their post-retirement house here too, in Bangla Bazar. Even though my dad was in the army and we got transferred to many places, the formative years of my life were spent here.
Like I did classes X, XI, XII here at Army Public School, and then graduated from Lucknow Christian College. Then I moved out of the city for MBA. I am in Lucknow these days with my better half and hope to have a good time here,” says Abhishek.

FROM REAL TO REEL But acting wasn’t Abhishek’s first choice. “I was working for a media house as a marketing guy, handling sales, production, etc. After working in the field I realized that this is not my cup of tea. I was like a regular guy, but it was my job that bored me. I didn’t enjoy my job. I had been doing theatre from my school days but never thought I would grow up to be an actor. Quitting my job gave me the time to audition for TV serials. I would do ad hoc jobs like working behind the scene for many reality shows. And then after doing tit-bit roles here and there, Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo happened, which changed my life,” he says.
A COMFORTABLE LIFE The hit TV show turned things around for Abhishek. “After Agle Janam..., I did Pratigyaand Dekha Ek Khwaab simultaneously. It was a difficult task, jumping from one set to another. I have recently also done a movie, Pied Pieper. I am playing a guy called Raj Kumar in the movie, who is an aspiring politician. Rajpal Yadav is in the main lead and I am the second lead,” says Abhishek.
Ask him why he has been missing from the small screen for a long time and he says, “Stardom is a very shortlived thing, especially on television. It is sort of an impossible job to last for 10-15 years on TV. I joined television mainly ’coz I was bored of my marketing job. Life as a television actor is quite comfortable.”
