Security has been ramped up for the polling in nine seats in the first phase of general elections on Thursday (April 10) in Madhya Pradesh (MP). Out of these nine seats, BJP and Congress had won four each while BSP had pocketed one seat in the last Lok Sabha elections.

The nine seats are spread across east to west MP. Five seats are in Mahakoshal and four in Vindhya region. The most high profile seat that is going to the polls tomorrow is of Chhindwara from where Union Minister Kamal Nath is going to test his electoral fortune. He is pitted against BJP's former MP Minister and MLA Chandrabhan Singh.

Kamal Nath is in the winning streak from the seat since last 34 years, except ones when former BJP MP Chief Minister BJP's Sundarlal Patwa defeated him in 1997. Renowned lawyer and Congress candidate Vivek Tankha is trying his luck first time against 2-time MP of BJP Rakesh Singh in Jabalpur seat. A shootout three days ago has tensed election scene in this seat.

Mandla (ST) seat is witnessing a keen contest between BJP former Union Minister Faggan Singh Kulaste and Congress MLA Omkar Singh Markam.

The Naxal-hit Balaghat has Congress' Hina Kanvre taking on BJP's Bodh Singh Bhagat.

Interesting fight in offing in Hoshangabad as Congress defector MP Rao Uday Pratap Singh is fighting on BJP ticket against his erstwhile party's Devendra Singh Patel.

Rewa is locked in a triangular contest as Congress's Sundar Lal Tiwari and BJP's Janardan Mishra are posing a challenge to sitting BSP MP Devkaran Patel. In neighbouring Satna seat, Congress Ajay Singh, son of Union Minister Arjun Singh, is taking on 3-time BJP MP Ganesh Singh.

Sitting Congress MP Rajesh Nandini Singh is contesting against BJP's Dalpat Singh Paraste in Shahdol (ST) seat. Congress veteran Indrajit Singh Patel is pitted against BJP's young pick Riti Pathak in Sidhi.
