The Chicago Bears were awarded wide receiver Josh Bellamy off waivers Tuesday, according to the NFL’s official transaction wire, and the club also agreed to terms with tight end Matthew Mulligan on a one-year contract.

Bellamy was cut by the Washington Redskins last weekend. Terms of Mulligan's deal weren't immediately disclosed.

Bellamy signed with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2012 as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Louisville. The wideout spent time on the Chiefs, Chargers and Redskins practice squads, and also appeared in a combined eight regular-season games with Washington (five) and Kansas City (three).

Bellamy returned five kickoffs for 101 yards during his stint with the Redskins. He also has four career tackles on special teams.

Meanwhile, Mulligan is a six-year veteran who has spent time with the New York Jets, St. Louis Rams and the New England Patriots. Mulligan has played in 65 games with 24 starts, catching 16 passes for 160 yards and two touchdowns.

Mulligan has also been a contributor on special teams throughout his career but played 21.6 percent of New England's offensive snaps in 2013 and is considered a classic in-line blocker, who is somewhat limited in the passing game. The addition of Mulligan would likely alleviate the need to use reserve lineman Eben Britton as an extra tight end the way the Bears did in 2013.

Mulligan came into the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Miami Dolphins in 2008 out of Maine. He has also appeared on the practice squads of Miami (2008), Tennessee (2008) and the New York Jets (2009), in addition to spending the 2013 preseason with the Green Bay Packers.
