Brothers dupe 7 medical aspirants of Rs 1.10 cr
AHMEDABAD: A Bodakdev resident has filed a complaint for cheating at Navrangpura police station against two brothers running an education consultancy firm near CG Road. According to the complainant, the duo duped seven students of Rs 1.10 crore after promising them admission in medical colleges of their choice in the state.
According to police, Kamlesh Sheth, a resident of Sachita Apartment, runs an institute at Satyam Mall in Satellite.
He came in contact with accused Jignesh and Hitesh Patel, owners of an educational consultancy firm at Samuda Annexe near CG Road, through a common friend K S Rajgor early in 2012. A government employee, Rajgor told Sheth that the duo is well-connected. The duo also promised Sheth every help if he needed admission in the state.
"The requirement for the favours rose quickly as Sheth came across some students who desperately wanted admission in medical colleges at any cost. He remembered Patel brothers and called them up. They said that the admission would be done but it would require lot of money. When Sheth showed willingness, they asked for the names of the students, their preferences and later quoted the money required. They said that a portion of the money be paid in advance for greasing some hands," said a Navrangpura police official.
After the initial talks in July 2012, Sheth forwarded him the list of students seeking admission to colleges in Ahmedabad, Surendranagar and Vadodara. In October, the duo told Sheth that they had got the confirmation and the students can get the letters. On October 24, the duo handed over the admission letter to a girl student for medical college at Gotri in Vadodara. When the girl went to the college on December 13, she was shocked to know that the college had not issued the letter.
"When Sheth came to know about the incident, he approached the other students and got to know that all the letters issued by the duo were fake. The Patel brothers had shut the shop by the time the victims came to know of the cheating and had probably left the city. Sheth had given an application of complaint in March on the basis of which we have registered the complaint. Search for the duo has been initiated on the basis of the phone numbers they used and online conversations," said a police investigator.
