RAJKOT: Saurashtra witnessed politicians leaving their parties to join other political outfits as candidates went out to file their nominations.
Arjunsinh Jadav, a former Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) secretary joined BJP on Monday at Bhavnagar and attacked senior Congress leader Shaktisinh Gohil at a public gathering. A Karadiya Rajput leader from Palitana, Jatav said, "Congress does not allow leaders to come up. I contested last assembly polls as an independent from Palitana after the Congress denied me a ticket.
I had received 18,000 votes. Therefore I was sacked by the Congress. Now I am joining the BJP.''
Meanwhile, Manhar Baldania, who had contested the last assembly polls on a Sadbhavna Manch ticket, also joined the BJP.
The Manch was formed by Kanubhai Kalsaria, who is presently the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate from Bhavnagar. Baldania runs a charitable hospital in Talaja and is a close associate of Kalsaria.
He belongs to Ahir community. In the assembly polls he lost to BJP's Bharti Shiyal who filed her nomination as the BJP candidate on Bhavnagar seat on Monday. A Koli, she is the sitting BJP MLA from Talaja.
Among others who filed their nominations on Monday were BJP candidates Mohan Kundaria from Rajkot, Poonam Madam from Jamnagar, Vitthal Radadia from Porbandar and Naran Kachadia from Amreli along with Congress candidates Kunvarji Bavalia from Rajkot and Vikram Madam from Jamnagar.
