KANPUR: The Ashtami celebrations were held on a grand note as hundreds of devotees thronged various Durga temples on Saturday.
The prominent temples like Tapeshwari, Lalita Devi, Kali Mathiya, Kali Maa at Bengali Mohal, Bara Devi, Vaishno Mata temple witnessed huge rush of devotees. They offered coconuts and flowers to the goddess.
A special tradition of taking out 'Jawara' was also observed in various parts of the city.
The devotees had pierced their body and mouth and proceeded towards temples to worship Maa Durga.
Baradevi and Tapeshwari Devi temples remained prominent for 'Jaware pujan' in the city.
Devotees kept on chanting 'Jai Mata Ki' and pleased Maa by piercing their body, with a belief that the goddess will bless them and fulfill all their blessings. But men and women pierced mouths and other parts of the body.
The temples witnessed extraordinary rush for which tight security arrangements had been made. Police personnel remained deployed outside the temples.
Meanwhile, devotees also enjoyed shopping at the fairs outside the temples. These fairs come up during the Navratra.
