Worthy runners-up
Mirror rates the performance of the Indian team that finished second in the just-concluded World Twenty20.

Ajinkya Rahane 2/10

54 Runs | 3 Innings | 100 Strike Rate

Rahane has failed to grab his opportunities after Shikhar Dhawan’s failures. Looked a touch overwhelmed by the occasion and has opened the doors for Dhawan’s re-entry.

Rohit Sharma 6/10

200 Runs | 6 Innings | 123 Strike Rate

The fact is that Rohit was the second highest scorer but he wouldn’t be thrilled. The strike-rate was fine — no one in India touched 130 - but he is yet to learn the art of building an innings.

Shikhar Dhawan 2/10

31 Runs | 3 Innings | 84 Strike Rate

A forgettable outing. Dhawan was expected to come good on these slow tracks but surprisingly, he couldn’t find any rhythm. Rahane’s failures will give him another chance.

Virat Kohli 9/10

319 Runs | 6 Innings | 129 Strike Rate

Yet again the swaggering superstar of Indian cricket delivered. He had a dream tournament and proved again that no one in the world chases better than him.

MS Dhoni 7/10

50 Runs | 4 Innings | 125 Strike Rate

Didn’t get many chances initially and got too few deliveries in the end games. As a captain, he managed to put aside the IPL controversy, marshaled his bowlers well and believed in the talent of Amit Mishra.

Suresh Raina 6/10

63 Runs | 4 Innings | 128 Strike Rate

He didn’t get many chances to bat in the initial games and did his bit when he got them. He also picked up the crucial wicket of Mahela Jayawardene in the final.

Yuvraj Singh 2/10

100 Runs | 5 Innings | 98 Strike Rate

A miserable tournament, barring one game. Leave aside the idiots who stoned, but Yuvraj might have played his last for India. He still gets two points for it was he who set up that game.

Ravindra Jadeja 4/10

5 Wkt | 6 Innings | 7.36 Eco. Rate

He didn’t get chances to bat but bowled his stuff as expected in the middle overs. He didn’t have a special tournament but didn’t embarrass himself.

R Ashwin 8/10

11 Wkt | 6 Innings | 5.35 Eco. Rate

After a dismal few months, he found his mojo in Bangladesh. He even had a dream ball to remember for ages – the one that took out Hashim Amla - and his economy rate was impressive.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar 6/10

4 Wkt | 6 Innings | 5.42 Eco. Rate

Like Ashwin, he too bounced back well here. The ball suddenly started to swing again, the economy rate was good and all looked well in his world.

Amit Mishra 7/10

10 Wkt | 6 Innings | 6.68 Eco. Rate

He was outstanding in the league games, spinning a web around the batsmen but in the two pressure games of the semis and the final, he couldn’t bring on his A game.

Mohammad Shami 3/10

2 Wkt | 3 Innings | 8.70 Eco. Rate

He started off well but Dhoni didn’t really trust his death bowling and replaced him. He was the most expensive of the Indian bowlers until the man who replaced him proved costlier.

Mohit Sharma 3/10

2 Wkt | 3 Innings | 9 Eco. Rate

He is a man who Dhoni trusts in IPL but he couldn’t replicate the performance at the highest level. He was the most expensive Indian bowler.

Duncan Fletcher

How do you rate the invisible man? He doesn’t talk to the press, the players hardly go out of their way to praise him, no one really knows what he has done but he is there still. So it must mean something.
