Elections 2014: Students join poll fray for a change

Telengana movement, economic disparity force them to take poll plunge

Hyderabad: Many students and research scholars, aspiring to build their political careers, are in the fray for the upcoming elections and are volunteering to “clean up” the administrative functioning.

Congress’ Krishank Manne, a research scholar from Osmania University and MLA candidate from Cantonment Board, AAP’s Mohan Kumar Kadimpalli, MLA candidate for Yemmiganur in Kurnool, TRS’ Pidamarthi Ravi from Osmania University, MLA candidate from Sattupally, Khammam and BSP’s Prasheel Anand from the University of Hyderabad, Serilingampally MLA candidate, and many others are now entering politics, which was usually a big no-no among youngsters.

Their ultimate intention however is to associate with the system as soon as possible and clear up corruption right from the ground level.

Mr Manne, 27, said, “The whole Telangana struggle was student initiated. A new wave is needed and We are here to take care of all the problems” Prasheel, 32, a JRF of University of Hyderabad comes from a non-political family.

He said, “I took to politics to work on the economic disparity in Serilingampally. On one side, the constituency has areas like the Jubilee Hills and on the other hand there are slums like Maseed Banda.”

Having struggled for Telangana, Pidamarthi Ravi, 36, said Telangana has crores of students and they need a voice in the poll. Mohan Kumar Kadimpalli, 28, a CA, said, “I come from an agriculture background and have seen that no government comes to help us. I have joined the fray as I want to change this.”
