Keep the salt nearby, because you might want to take the following information with a pinch of it, as nothing has been officially confirmed as of yet.
Remember the BMW X6-fighter that Mercedes-Benz has been teasing us with for a couple of years now? Well, it's about less than a year away from the original timeline is said to keep its word, especially since Mercedes-Benz confirmed a 2015 start of production, right alongside the M-Class, GL-Class (and the C-Class W205 now, ed) at the Tuscaloosa plant in Alabama.

If our information is correct, the Germans are preparing the unveil of a close-to-production concept car of the future Mercedes-Benz model - dubbed to get the MLC moniker - and the model may be revealed as early as at the 2014 New York Auto Show, set to open its doors in about two weeks time.

Based on the W166 and X166 platforms used by the current M-Class and GL-Class, the upcoming “four-door coupe/crossover” is said to battle both the BMW X6 and a future Audi Q6 model, offering less headroom but more style for premium crossover buyers of the future.

In about two years time, the Mercedes-Benz MLC will also get a smaller brother in the shape of the GLC, another coupe-like crossover based on the not-yet-unveiled X205 generation of the GLK, which in turn is using the aluminium-friendly MRA (Modular Rear Architecture). If we are correct remains to be seen, but keep in mind that a MLC-previewing concept car is bound to get under the spotlight this year, sooner or later.
