Spectre of Krishna Yadav surfaces

Yadav’s exit from politics in 2003 was a boon to Reddy
Hyderabad: BJP Telangana president and Amberpet sitting MLA G. Kishan Reddy is facing tough competition from unexpected quarters. Former minister C. Krishna Yadav, who was arrested by the CBI in a multi-crore fake stamp paper scam and subsequently suspended from the TD in 2003, is back to active electoral politics after rejoining TD in 2012.
Amberpet TD cadre has been pressurising the party high command not to allot Amberpet seat to BJP as part of TD-BJP alliance and field Krishna Yadav instead. TD cadre argued that Amberpet, with over 35,000 minority votes has little chance of a BJP candidate winning due to the Modi factor.
Mr Yadav began his political career as an ordinary party worker in TDP in 1985 and was elected MCH Corporator, now GHMC, in 1986 on a TD ticket. He was elected as MLA from Himayathnagar constituency twice in 1994 and 1999 and later elevated as government whip and inducted as labour minister in Chandrababu Naidu’s cabinet.
However, he went into political oblivion following his arrest by CBI in September 2003, six months ahead of general elections in 2004 the multi-crore fake stamp paper scam that rocked the nation. He was sent to Yerawada jail in Pune. The main accused, Abdul Karim Telgi, had alleged that Krishna Yadav was part of the scam and that he operated in Andhra Pradesh as their agent. However, the former minister was given a clean chit after spending over three years in jail until December 2006.
His desperate efforts to join the TD and contest Assembly elections in 2009 were thwarted by city TD leaders who objected to his rejoining the party on grounds that it would harm the party’s reputation. He then secured a ticket from the Samajwadi Party and contested the election but lost to Kishan Reddy by a huge margin. However, he was admitted to the TD in November 2012 and since then he has been focusing on Amberpet constituency.
Mr Yadav’s exit from politics in 2003 turned out to be a boon for Kishan Reddy who secured Himayathnagar ticket in 2004 as part of the TD-BJP alliance and won. Himayathnagar constituency was reorganised as Amberpet constituency which Kishan Reddy won twice in a row.
