Kabandungan district head Ading Ismail said the seven miners were among eight victims who were found dead at the illegal mining site.
'The seven victims were found at a depth of 40 meters,' he said as quoted by Antara news agency on Friday. He said all of the bodies of the victims had been sent to their families. They were identified as Maman, 50, Iding, 20, Yayan, 28, Nurdin, 20, Dedi, Jana, 38, Amad, 27 and Amir, 50.
Ading said many residents of Cianaga village in Kabandungan, Sukabumi, worked as illegal miners on the mountain, which was near their village. He said he had obtained information that they did not use safety equipment while working.
'We have told the residents to stop the illegal mining activities because we are afraid that similar accidents could happen again in the future,' he said.
