he North Sumatra High Prosecutor's Office is monitoring the activity of suspended Medan Mayor Rahudman Harahap following the recent release of a Supreme Court verdict that sentenced the mayor to five years in prison for corruption.
'We deployed several officers to watch the activities of Rahudman Harahap,' said a spokesman from the prosecutor's office, Chandra Purnama, as quoted by Antara news agency on Sunday.
Chandra said the monitoring aimed to make detaining the convict easier when the prosecutor's office received a copy of the verdict.
In August last year, prosecutors demanded that the Medan Corruption Court sentence Rahudman to four years in prison for graft amounting to
Rp 1.5 billion (US$132,549) when he was South Tapanuli regency secretary. However, the court acquitted him of the charge.
The Medan Corruption Court admitted on Thursday that the Supreme Court had released its verdict on the mayor on March 26, imprisoned him and also fined him Rp 200 million.
