BANGALORE: Former chief minister and BJP veteran BS Yeddyurappa took a jibe at AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi, saying the Congress leader is afraid of his popularity.
On Rahul equating him with corruption in a speech at Bellary a few days ago, Yeddyurappa said it indicates how much the Congress fears Yeddyurappa. "The Congress is well aware of the public support and affection I enjoy.
Their ploy is to tarnish my image by making such remarks, but they won't be successful," he said at the party office in Bangalore on Sunday.
Seeking to deflate Narendra Modi's anti-graft campaign, Rahul had said: "He is travelling across the country and speaking about corruption. But he doesn't see Yeddyurappa, who spent some time in jail, next to him."
BSY campaigns for Ananth
Yeddyurappa campaigned for party candidates in Bangalore and expressed confidence that BJP will win all the three seats in the city. "Only a matter of margin needs to be known in Ananth Kumar's case. It is certain that Kumar will become a cabinet minister in the Modi-led government. PC Mohan and DV Sadananda Gowda are also going to win with good margins," he said.
Expressing reservation over literary figures like U R Ananthamurthy and Girish Karnad making lighter comments against BJP leaders, Yeddyurappa said URA was chancellor of the Central University of Karnataka in Gulbarga, and being a central government appointee it is not fair on his part to make such political comments.
