NASHIK: The Nashik Industries & Manufacturers’ Association (NIMA) and Ambad Industries & Manufacturers’ Association (AIMA) have asked the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) to undertake repair works of internal roads and streetlights in Ambad and Satpur industrial estates of Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC).
Both Ambad and Satpur industrial estates are located in the jurisdiction of the NMC, which looks at road and streetlight maintenance.

Speaking to TOI, NIMA president Maniksh Kothari said, “The condition of roads in both Ambad and Satpur industrial areas has deteriorated. The road from Gareware point to Papaya Nursery is in very bad state. The NMC needs to carry out road works at the earliest. Moreover, the streetlights in Nashik Industrial Co-operate Estate (NICE) sector are defunct. The area has plunged into darkness, which is causing inconvenience to the industries.”
“We also met municipal commissioner Sanjay Khandare six months ago and had urged him for regular maintenance of roads and streetlights in the industrial estates. He had assured us to undertake road repair works immediately. Except 2-3 major roads, the repairs works have not commenced yet. We are planning to meet the municipal commissioner in the next few days,” he added.
AIMA president Suresh Mali said, “The NMC resurfaced only three roads in Ambad industrial estate, but the condition of rest of the roads has deteriorated. Moreover, a 5-km road from Gareware point to Papaya Nursery, which connects both Ambad and Satpur industrial estates and is entry points for both the MIDC areas, is also in a bad state. The NMC has started widening and resurfacing the road from Papya Nursery, but the progress is very slow and the time for completing the work is 11 months. The NMC must speed up the work and complete it in the next two-three months.”

“Besides roads, 30% of the streetlights in Ambad are defunct. The NMC has replaced 100 old electric poles with new ones, but there are no lights in them. There is need to speed up the works and finish them at the earliest. I had written a letter in this connection to the municipal commissioner last month, but he hasn’t taken any cognizance yet,” he added.
An official of the PWD department said on the condition of anonymity, “We have already resurfaced three roads at a cost of Rs 3 crore. We had also carried out repair works worth Rs 85 lakh few months ago. We will undertake road repair works wherever needed once the budget of NMC for the current fiscal is approved by the general body. The standing committee of NMC is yet to present the budget.”
