BHOPAL: In this day and age when criminals and anti-social find it rather easy to lay their hands on any type of arms, Madhya Pradesh Police has gone for an aerosol spray guns to help women cops keep such types at bay!
So armed with Self-Protection Aerosol Devices (SPAD), women in khaki set to take on criminals head on! Priced at Rs 450, deodorant look-alike can easily fit in a handbag.

But before they can keep troublemakers at bay, they better watch out for skin irritation that comes along with package. Despite flaws, Madhya Pradesh Police claims it can be effective even against the mob. So much so that police have procured as many as 100 such devices.
Additional DGP (administration) Kailash Makwana said, "Such devices are commonly used by women in the US and other foreign countries. The concept, new to the country, can help reduce crime against women."
With device available at any store in the market, Makwana feels SPAD will help fight criminals. "We aim to distribute these 'spray guns' among our staff," he said.
Counsellor at Mahila Thana, Mohib Ahmed said, "Possessing such devices will psychologically boost the morale of women police staff. But one should be trained in self-defence rather than relying on such devices, as crimes are not pre-meditated."
A woman advocate, Shalbha Singh, said with rise in crime against women such device is the need of the hour. It is legal to use SPAD against offenders for it will certainly keep confidence level of women in khakhi soaring.
City students feel the use of SPAD by cops will set a precedent for other women. Aradhna Bhatt, a BSSS student, said, "With crime graph going up against women, SPAD has become a necessity for us."
