NC counting on boycott call as its major source of sustenance in elections: Baig

SRINAGAR, Apr 5: Senior PDP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Baig today alleged that the National Conference has had been counting on boycott calls as its major source of sustenance in elections.
“It generally enforces the boycott calls given by others to benefit from the non-participation of voters because it realizes that if people come to vote they will do so only to get ‘azadi’ from NC,” he said while addressing a workers meet in Rafiabad segment of Baramula Parliamentary constituency.
Mr Baig said NC has always played tricks in the elections to make itself through but this time things are totally different and people have now understood the acts it has been employing over the years to get into power. “People are conscious enough this time about the importance of vote as they think it is the only weapon to change the destiny of Jammu & Kashmir and resolve its issues,” he added.
The PDP leader said that the people have experienced in the State whether elections are held or not, whether they resort to boycott or not, there is always a Government in place and there is now realization on ground that by not participating overwhelmingly in the polls we are doing a big disservice with ourselves. “It has to be weighed by the people and decided by them whether they should have a responsible Government in place as was provided by the PDP in 2002 or they should have a Government like the present one led by the NC,” he said.
He said PDP if voted to Parliament will fight for the interests of the State and will involve every shade of opinion both in an outside the Parliament to seek a consensus for the political settlement of the State and problems of people.
The senior party leaders, Naeem Akhtar, Mohammad Dilwar Mir and others were also present on the occasion.
