SURAT: A 35 year old man's funeral came to a halt on Friday following dispute within family over method to adopt for the funeral. Wife of the deceased demanded that her husband should be buried while brother of the deceased wanted to cremate the body.
Ramesh Telugu, a resident of Limbayat died of illness on Friday. His wife Bhagyalakshmi wanted to take the body for burial as per her religious belief while Ramesh' brother Shree Nivas wanted to cremate the body.
The dispute continued for hours and a number of neighbours and relatives gathered at the location. No one was ready to leave the body.
Meanwhile, police was alerted by locals fearing some untoward incident. Police intervened and attempted to strike compromise between the two family members but failed. Ultimately the body was sent for post mortem by police suspecting some other reason behind death. Post mortem revealed that the deceased died of illness.
Elders in family and police called for joint meeting on Saturday between the wife and brother of Ramesh. In the meeting all parties agreed that the deceased's body should be given to his brother. After the decision Ramesh' body was handed over to his brother and the body was taken for cremation.
