SPDP issues gag order on political statements

KUCHING: Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) has issued a gag order to its leaders to stop them from making any political statements in the media.

Party president Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom when met by reporters yesterday declined to comment on party members objecting to the recent reinstatement of former SPDP leaders who were sacked two years ago.

“No, it’s a gag order not to talk about politics. I am a politician so it’s enough with that,” he said without elaborating.

He told reporters this after chairing the Sarikei Division Community Leaders, Village Headmen Selection Panel meeting at his office in Bangunan Masja here.

He was asked to comment on rumours that an influential individual in the party and his loyalists who strongly objected to the reinstatement were hatching plans to take over the party leadership.

The four, all elected representatives, are Assistant Community Development Minister Datuk Peter Nansian Ngusie (Tasik Biru), Assistant Public Utilities Minister (Water Supply) Datuk Sylvester Entri Muran (Marudi), Assistant Early Childhood Education and Family Development Minister Rosey Yunus (Bekenu) and Paulus Palu Gumbang (Batu Danau).

They together with former Mas Gading MP Datuk Dr Tiki Lafe were the group of five leaders (G5) who were sacked by the party following an unresolved internal crisis two years ago.

They then formed unregistered BN Club to continue executing their duties as BN elected representatives. Soon after Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem took office he initiated their reinstatement but minus Dr Tiki.

The reason Dr Tiki was excluded was because he had contested as an independent candidate against BN candidate for Mas Gading Anthony Nogeh Gumbek in the last general election which he lost.
