Youth's suicide sparks outrage in Amreli village
RAJKOT: A 16-year-old boy, identified as Bhavesh Vaja of Dedan village in Khambha taluka of Amreli, committed suicide by consuming poison on Wednesday.
His family members have alleged that he ended his life following torture by police to extract information about his friend Jayesh, who had eloped with a girl from Dedan village.
Sources said Bhavesh and his father Ukabhai Vaja were called by the police for questioning after Jayesh Mistry eloped with a girl two days ago.

"The police threatened my son with dire consequences if he did not provide information about Jayesh's whereabouts and this led to his consuming poison," Ukabhai Vaja alleged. Bhavesh died on Thursday at a hospital in Mahuva. The villagers observed a bandh in protest and demanded action against the erring police officials. When contacted, deputy superintendent of police (Rajula division) D S Vyas said he was on the way to Dedan village where the suicide had taken place. He said he would be able to comment on the matter only after probing the matter on the spot.
