INDORE: A post graduate programme (PGP) student Varun Lakra, who had suffered spine injury during the IIM-Indore stage collapse, lodged a police complaint against the contractor, who had set up the stage for the convocation ceremony on March 29.
A two-member committee is already probing the incident. A resident of Panchsheel apartment, Dwarka, New Delhi, Lakra has lodged an FIR against Balram Chopra of Janta Tent House, Indore at Kishanganj police station for using inferior quality material for stage staircase meant for group photographs.
The institute had given contract to the tent house to build the stage.
In his statement, Lakra said due to negligence on part of the contractor, several students were injured. He recorded his statements while he was admitted in the hospital.
Kishanganj police station in charge, Ramesh Chandra Bhaskare, said, "A case has been registered against the contractor under relevant sections of the IPC. The charge might increase once the inquiry set up to probe the incident is tabled."
On last Saturday, nearly 41 students of the premier Indian Institute of Management, Indore (IIM-I) suffered injuries after the stage collapsed. Later, on Monday, a committee was constituted to probe the accident.
On Wednesday, taking account of the accident spot, the committee recorded statements of the eye-witnesses. An email has also been shot-off to all members of the IIM community to share their ordeal, photographs, videos etc with the committee. The committee will maintain confidentiality in the case.
