'It's totally chic, like I've never had a sexual thought before': Hilarious video sees Mindy Kaling don white at her first Vogue fitting

Dressed in a tight-fitting Dries Van Noten blouse and skirt paired with polka-dot Oscar de la Renta pumps, Mindy Kaling looks like her usual striking self in Vogue's new Shape issue - but it's an outfit she may have had to fight hard for.

In a satirical Vogue Original Short, the 34-year-old creator and star of The Mindy Project is seen wearing a far more 'demure' look at her Vogue fitting, and she is far from impressed.

Taking a passive aggressive approach with Vogue staffers Sara Moonves and Samantha Knobloch, the actress says dryly: 'I love it and I think it is very elegant and very, like, young Laura Bush. It's totally chic, like I have never had a sexual thought before in my life.'

'It’s sort of elegant and joyless in a way that I think is very exciting,' she adds, referring to her high neck white dress which is teamed with a pale yellow cardigan.

Ms Kaling then points to another rack of clothes in the Vogue closet, which has been put aside for an unnamed hip-hop star. 'Whose rack of awesome clothes is that?' she asks.

Clearly disappointed with the outfit chosen for her, Ms Kaling proceeds to pick up various items that she says 'just smell expensive', in the hopes that Vogue will let her wear them.

'That's for another story,' Ms Moonves says as Ms Kaling holds a gold hoop earring up to her face.

But it seems the comedienne got her way in the end.

Rather than shying away from showing off her size ten body, the five-foot-four-inch actress, framed her shilouette to knockout effect in Dries van Noten.

'I feel the same way about clothes as I do about food - I want everything,' she told Vogue.

'When I’m at my thinnest, I tend to wear things that don’t show off my body. But when I’m bigger, I’ll go body-con, which comes from a place of "This is my perimeter, in case you were wondering if I was actually much bigger",' she joked, adding that she tries not to play it safe with her sartorial choices.

'It’s really tempting not to take chances. But I don’t want to be fearful. I don’t want my tombstone to say, she hid her imperfections well on the red carpet.'

She does concede, however, that when something voluminous appeals to her, she always gets a second opinion from friends.

'It takes supreme confidence to put [something big] on and not belt it,' she said.

Confidence is something Ms Kaling's on-screen doppelgänger, Dr. Mindy Lahiri, also has in droves.

The clothes-obsessed ob-gyn often makes fun of the fact that she's not a lithe blonde with quips like: 'I don’t want coffee cake—I’m still full from that chia seed I had last night.'

Ms Kaling admitted there is a 'whole list' of things she might change about herself, but added that she never needs to be skinny.

'I don’t want to be skinny. I’m constantly in a state of self-improvement, but I don’t beat myself up over it.'

After writing a best-selling memoir titled Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?, Ms Kaling is currently working on a sequel while getting ready for her show's return to Fox on Tuesday.

Talking to Savannah Guthrie to the Today show this morning, Ms Kaling revealed: 'We pick up right where we left off last season, with the kiss.'

With a string of leading men as guest stars, all whom play a romantic interest of Dr Lahiri's, Ms Kaling said being able to kiss them all 'is a perk of the job'.

'My character has kissed more men in a season than I have met in my entire life,' she laughed.

Ms Kaling also admitted she has 'a big crush on Ben Affleck', but when she finally meet him a few months ago at an event, she revealed she failed to ask him to be a guest on the show -- because she was 'too starstruck.'
