New Delhi, Wed, 02 Apr 2014 NI Wire

Max Super Speciality Hospital, Shalimar Bagh along with Delhi Traffic Police observed the ‘Road Safety Awareness Week’ across 7 major traffic junctions of North-West Delhi, including Madhuban Chowk, Kamla Nagar, Ashok Vihar, Rajouri Garden and Shalimar Bagh, As part of this initiative, more than 60 volunteers from Max Super Speciality Hospital, Shalimar Bagh carried placards at the traffic junctions aimed at educating people about the important measures and precautions to be taken while driving on the road.

The volunteers stepped out on the road and distributed 25,000 newsletters and 2,300 first-aid kits. They interacted with 5,400 motorists and explained the need to drive safely and encouraged them to save an Emergency no. in their mobile phones, so that medical care can be just a phone call away in case of an emergency.

According to sources provided by organisation, a recent survey by United Nations mentioned that 1.2 billion residents of India are mobile subscribers. However, less than 50% of the country’s population has emergency numbers handy. Medical conditions and accidents cannot be anticipated and this raises a need for conscious effort towards maintaining a record of emergency contact numbers. The last thing the patient needs during an emergency is a lost or misplaced contact number list.

For this reason, it is important that masses have access to an updated and reliable list of contact numbers. In seven days, Max Super Speciality Hospital, Shalimar Bagh, got more than 500 motorists to save the emergency number in their mobile phones. The representatives of the hospital also handed an Emergency Response Kit which comprised of a Newsletter and articles explaining the need for road safety and prevention tips.

Speaking about the initiative, Sonal Pahwa, GM-Operations, Max Super Speciality Hospital, Shalimar Bagh, stated, “Millions of deaths are observed globally owing to road accidents. These fatalities can be prevented by spreading awareness amongst the masses about simple road safety measures. We, at Max Super Speciality Hospital, Shalimar Bagh, through our seven days initiative reached out to maximum residents of the North-West region of the Capital explaining and cautioning them about how adhering to few simple safety rules can save not only their own life but also prevent an innocent’s death.”
