5 killed in Dhaka road accidents

Four pedestrians were run over by a bus near the Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Wednesday morning. Three of them died on the spot.

In another accident a short while later, an unidentified woman was hit by a pickup van in Banani. She later died in hospital.

The first accident occurred around 10:30am, said Airport Police Station Inspector Shafiqul Islam. The bus mounted the footpath, killing three people on the spot.

The bus had been seized, but its driver had managed to flee.
The victims were identified as Bilkis Begum, 35, Tajuddin, 40, Biman employees Abdul Kuddus Chowdhury and Sabur Khan.

The Jabal-e-Nur Paribahan bus went out of control and drove onto the sidewalk. Bilkis, Tajuddin and Sabur Khan were killed on the spot.

Abdul Kuddus later died in the Combined Military Hospital.
Their bodies had been sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), police said.

Inspector Mozammel Haque of the DMCH outpost said an unidentified woman was hit by a pickup van in Banani. She died at a hospital around 1:30pm.

The woman wore a pink Salwar Kameez and was around thirty years of age, the inspector said.
