With a title like Rowdy, what do you expect?

Obviously, a lot of action and violence, going by the film’s ‘A’ certificate from the censor board.

“But it is not just gore,” said the inimitable Ram Gopal Varma, over the telephone from Hyderabad.

“Centred on the relationship between a father and his son, this story is laden with emotion.”

Varma brings together Mohan Babu and Jayasudha as husband and wife in this tale set in Rayalseema in Andhra Pradesh.

Babu plays a faction leader, Krishna, who runs a parallel government. His two sons are played by Kannada actor Kishore and Vishnu Manchu, Babu’s own son.

“I always wanted to do a film with Mohan Babu,” said Varma. “I have pitched Mohan Babu in a realistic way, so in the film, he does not wear a wig or any make-up. And, he surpassed my expectations.”

Talking about Jayasudha, he added that she played a powerful character. As a wife and a mother, she juggles between issues that crop up in the father-son relationship. Shalini Srivastava is paired opposite Vishnu Manchu.

Watch out for an eleven-minute high-voltage action sequence where the father and son duo, Mohan Babu and Vishnu Manchu, are pitted against each other.
