Jiah’s mother seeking insurance money, says Aditya Pancholi

Rabya had earlier said Sooraj, had admitted to his friend in a drunken state that he killed Jiah, and was now conspiring to kill her.

With actor Jiah Khan’s mother Rabya seeking CBI probe into the death of her daughter, actor Aditya Pancholi Tuesday alleged that her intention was to claim insurance. Pancholi, whose son Sooraj has been charged with abetment to suicide, said Rabya was free to go before any “competent legal authority” seeking a probe.

Rabya had earlier said Sooraj, Jiah’s former boyfriend, had admitted to his friend in a drunken state that he killed Jiah, and was now conspiring to kill her.

Pancholi told Newsline, “She (Rabya) can go to any competent legal agency. She can go to any court. She is an aggrieved person. The inquiry can be conducted by any agency.”

Asked about Rabya’s claims against his son and the petition she has filed in the High Court, he said, “It is clear that she is doing it for insurance money. Suddenly, after three months of her death, she says it was murder.”

Asked about Rabya taking her battle to Twitter, he said, “I will take a stand on what she has said about me and my family. She is in contempt as she has been posting proceedings on Twitter when the matter is sub-judice.” The actor, who was present in High Court for a personal matter, said he was willing to cooperate with the investigating agency. “I sympathise with Rabya for her loss, but she cannot defame me. A probe by an agency like CBI will actually bring this case to an end,” said Pancholi.

Festive offer

Reacting to Pancholi’s statements, Rabya said, “What insurance money is he talking about? My daughter was only 25. Only the Pancholis can talk about money. I do not have insurance and my children will not get any money.”

“The story of insurance claim is absurd as there is no such policy,” said Rabya’s lawyer Dinesh Tiwari.

The Bombay High Court had on March 28 asked the police to file a reply by April 7 as to why all evidence such as deleted text messages and BBM chats and video recording of the autopsy, was not attached in the chargesheet.
