This summer is a scorcher, and while you may be tempted to show off your toned arms and legs, there is always the fear that you will tan more than you want to.
And, as a result, you will end up covering up and looking frumpy in the process. Here’s how you can get the right SPF — sun-protective fashion — for the summer.
Parasols: Don’t use the same drab, sensible-looking umbrellas you carry around during the monsoon.
Opt for colourful, summery parasols that have pretty patterns. Buy more than one so that you can mix and match them with your outfits.
Sunglasses: Choose a pair that is stylish and has the right level of UV protection. Sunglasses with wide coverage and that come with a label that says the lenses block 99% or 100% of UVB and UVA rays are ideal for the season. Moreover, choose the right tint. For instance, yellow or rose tinted lenses can make it difficult to tell the difference between changes in traffic lights; while grey, green, and brown lenses, on the other hand, minimize colour distortion.
Scarves: Sure you want to protect your face from the harsh rays of the sun, but that doesn’t mean you should wrap it up in the same shawls you’ve used in winter. Get scarves in light fabrics and colours that will allow your skin to breathe and up your style quotient in the process.
Headgear: Do you hesitate to wear protective headgear because you’ll end up with hat hair because of the shape of the hat and the humidity in the air? In that case, it’s best to keep your hair straight by blow-drying it, using a straightening iron and using a little finishing cream to keep stray bits from flying across your face. If you have long hair, braid it.
