MANGALORE: "It is nearing three years after the worst Fukoshima nuclear disaster and how India equipped to deal with such situations," a student posed the question to former President APJ Abdul Kalam. With a smiling face, the scientist cleared the doubt of the student and said, "the Indian nuclear plants are safer than other countries."
"Our safety standards are very high and nuclear plants located 12 meters above the sea level.
Hence, our nuclear plants will have no danger even in Tsunami situations," Kalam said at an interactive session at Yenepoya University on Tuesday.
"In another ten years, the nuclear plants will be completely shifted from uranium base to Thorium base, which is less expensive and safe," Kalam said.
Another student wanted to know from the former President why India cannot cut down the defence expense and increase the sanctions to healthcare sector. "Read the history of India, where you find a fact that out of 6,000 years, Indians ruled India only for 200 years. You can defend your country only if you are strong," Kalam cleared the doubt.
Indian brain drain is another issue one of the students raised in the interaction. Kalam said, "Nearly 200 million Indians are spread across the World. Some leave the country to earn money, while some to acquire knowledge. Those acquire and return India are assets for our nation. The future of the World will be Global World," Kalam explained his vision and said that there no threat in Indian brains migrating to foreign countries.

To a question as to whether nano robots would replace astronauts, Kalam said that computers can replace anything except innovation. "By 2019, a personal computer will have the memory size of a human brain. By 2050, the memory space of a computer will be equal to that of the entire population of the World. Computer will be used in all spheres of the World, but not in innovation," he said.
Kalam made students to take oath that they will vote without fail in the Lok Sabha elections.
