Supplementary charge sheet in Adarsh scam claims family members of BJP MP and late Cong ex-MLC, promoter Thakur and others cornered flats in the names of close associates.

Ten of the 22 benami flats in the controversial Adarsh cooperative housing society were booked under the SC/ST category, the 200-page supplementary charge sheet filed by the CBI on Thursday revealed.

According to the charge sheet, 10 individuals acquired benami flats under this category, including BJP Rajya Sabha MP Ajay Sancheti’s brother Abhay, ex-MLC Kanhaiyalal Gidwani, his sons Amit and Sunil and wife Devi, Brigadier (retd) R C Sharma and Adarsh promoter R C Thakur.

Sancheti, known to be a close aide of senior BJP leader Nitin Gadkari, acquired eight flats in the names of benami holders Suresh Atram, Sudhakar Madke, Rajesh Bora, Parmanand Hinduja, Manilal Thakur, Paramhans Ram, Col late Amarjit Singh and Kiran Bhadange, the charge sheet claimed.

Kanhaiyalal Gidwani, now deceased, was one of the promoters of Adarsh society. He and his family allegedly own six benami flats. A total of 16 flats were booked under the SC/ST category.

Some of the names in which flats were booked under the SC/ST quota were Gajanan Koli (for Sunil Gidwani), Sandusingh Fulsingh Rajput (Narayandas Agarwal), Suresh Gulabrao Atram (San Finance Corporation, Nagpur/ Abhay Sancheti), Raghunath Maruti Bhosale and Vishwas B Chougule (Umesh Dhondiram Shinde).

“The modus operandi in this case was that flats for weaker sections falling in the SC/ST category were targeted by the accused, who are not eligible for flats under this category. They had propped up names of close associates and made such persons apply for membership in Adarsh, and financed such members to receive flats by cheating and deception in order to induce delivery of property in the name of such benami persons,” the charge sheet read.

The charge sheet claimed Abhay and Anand Sancheti, who hold nine benami flats, were roped in by Thakur who promised them membership, and subsequently the Sanchetis paid Rs 3 crore to Adarsh Society. It also names 23 financiers, including the Sancheti Group and 22 coconspirators including members of the housing society.

The agency was looking into the nexus and quid pro quo angles in 33 benami properties out of the 103 flats. This aspect was probed under the Benami Transactions Prohibition Act. With PTI Inputs
