KOKRAJHAR: Reacting to the recent rape and murder of a Bodo girl, the All Bodo Students' Union (Absu) on Monday slammed the Congress-led government for deterioration of law and order in Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) areas.
President of ABSU Promod Boro said the rape and murder of a student at Makra River, Boldi, in Chirang district on Saturday has been widely condemned by all.
He added that the Absu has demanded stringent punishment for all the culprits involved in the brutal murder besides a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the deceased's family.
Boro expressed surprise over the state government for its silence on the incident. He asked the Chirang district administration to make the post-mortem report public. The concealing of fact of the incident will invite public ire, he said. He added that the district administration should make the statement of the five arrested culprits public.
Boro said the Absu has suspected a political conspiracy over the incident which could be hatched by certain people with vested interests. He, however, called upon people to maintain peace and communal harmony.
The banned National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB), led by IK Songbijit, has warned that it will take action against the culprits who are involved in the rape and murder of the girl if police fails to arrest all the accused.
