Defeat both Narendra Modi and Rahul Gandhi to avoid inflation after polls, says Kejriwal

Arvind Kejriwal addresses a rally in Dwarka on Monday.

As Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal prepares for his biggest political gamble in Varanasi, he asked people to defeat BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi if they didn't want to face a steep price rise after the Lok Sabha elections.

"If you want to defeat Congress and BJP, you will have to defeat their Shahenshahs. You will have to defeat Modi and Rahul. If Congress comes to power they will double the prices of gas. If BJP comes to power it will happen, as Modi has written a letter and three reminders to the Centre asking them why gas price was not being hiked. The Election Commission has stopped the hike after my letter for two months. Now your votes will decide whether there is a hike and price rise or not," Kejriwal said.

Addressing a sabha at Dwarka, the AAP leader took on Modi and said the claims by the Gujarat chief minister of having reduced corruption in his state were false. "When I visited the state I found that the rate for everything was fixed. If you want a license pay Rs 5,000?there is transparency in Gujarat as everyone knows that rates are fixed. Modi could not end corruption in 12 years but we did it in 49 days."

Kejriwal also warned that Modi will bring unemployment. "BJP said it was against FDI in retail but Modi in a recent meeting with businessmen in Delhi when he was asked about FDI said that they should not be afraid of international competition. We all know that BJP is now being run by Modi alone. If BJP comes to power then FDI in retail will come and then you should be ready for huge unemployment," said the AAP chief.

Kejriwal was at best of his wit when he warned other parties to get used to him as he was not going away and staying there to keep irritating them. "BJP keep saying I ran away. Where did I go? Did I go to Pakistan? I am standing right here?I am not going anywhere, I will live and die here. Tumhari naak mai dam ker ke rakhunga," he said.

A day after Congress president Sonia Gandhi, in an apparent reference to AAP, said that running a government was not child's play Kejriwal on Monday made light of the comment. "She should not say such things about her own son. He looks like a child but he can be PM," he said.

Attacking Congress and BJP for "coming together to stop subsidies", Kejriwal said the provisions made by his government will end on Tuesday. Rejecting criticism of running away from responsibility, the AAP leader said they resigned on principle.
