Efficient WIC MS ‘faces the music’

WAZIRABAD
Perhaps annoyed at reporting pace of work on WIC project to CM’s House on daily basis, the Punjab Health Secretary has transferred the-yet-to-be opened Wazirabad Institute of Cardiology (WIC) MS Dr Zafar Iqbal and ordered him to report to the Secretariat while Dr Hamid Mehmood from Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) Lahore will be the his successor.
According details, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, during his recent visit to Gujranwala, had sought progress report of the under construction WIC on daily basis. Following the directives, MS Dr Zafar Iqbal started reporting about pace of work including speed, standard and quality of material being used in construction on daily basis to the CM’s Secretariat.
It is to be noted that the Building Department has been executing the constructive work and while the MS had to ensure requirements of paramedics and patients as well. Perhaps annoyed at the constant reporting by the MS to the CM’s House, the Punjab Health Secretary transferred and ordered WIC MS Dr Zafar Iqbal to report to Secretariat and appointed Dr Hamid Mehmood from PIC Lahore as the new Medical Superintendent of WIC. Dr Zafar Iqbal has relinquished the charge of WIC but the new MS has not assumed the office so far.
It pertinent to mention here that construction work continues at WIC without direct or indirect supervision of the Health Department.
Meanwhile, Gujranwala Division Commissioner Shumail Ahmed Khawaja visited the WIC for the second time and expressed his dissatisfaction with the pace of work and quality of material being used in the construction. He also directed the Building Department officials to strictly adhere to specifications set for the projects.
