“The Pirtek Challenge is a major fundraiser for the Prostrate Cancer Foundation of Australia and our members have been keen supporters for a number of years,” club president Peter Black said.
The local outing centered on Copeton Dam with some good fish caught and released over the two days.
Winner of the sub-junior section was the consistent Alice McInnes who fished Sunday morning for one yellow belly and one red fin to return a total point score of 246.
Another consistent junior angler Angus Lindsay was able to take out his division with a nice 57 centimetre yellow belly, giving him a points total of 285.
A regular to the podium in the ladies was Peggy Osborne, rewarded for her efforts with a total of 450 points to hold out runner-up Nicole Black with 255 points. Competition among the men was hot, and a number of anglers scored over 500 points.
However, last year’s champion Garry O’Brien continued his superb form to win the division with a total of 2133 points. Garry’s catch included a good bag of yellow belly and a 70 centimetre cod.
Runner-up Mitchell Black managed his bag limit on yellow belly and a few catfish for a total of 1679 points.
Another highlight for the weekend was the capture of a monster 64 centimetre yellow belly by new member Darrell Hughes.
Hughes puts his success down to his new boat that has produced fish every trip.
