St Francis Xavier's birth anniversary will be celebrated on April 6

The 508th birth anniversary of St Francis Xavier (which is on April 7) will be celebrated on April 6, Sunday at 4.30 pm at Bom Jesus Basilica, Old Goa. The celebrations will begin at 4.30 pm and prayers will be offered for good candidates and a government that will genuinely work for all sections of society. The birthday mass will begin at 5pm during which the Jesuit novices from Belgaum will also perform a short play.
Talk on food and nutrition security: To mark the birth centenary of Goan advocate, educator and philanthropist, Luis Caraciolo, a memorial lecture will be held on April 1 at 3.30pm at the national institute of oceanography. The theme will be 'Food and Nutrition Security in India: Succeses and Challenges'. The lecture that will discuss problems of poverty, malnutrition, food wastage and poor practices of food processing, will be delivered by Dr Bangali Baboo, former director of the national agriculture innovation project under ICAR.
History Hour at TSKK: Xavier Centre of Historical Research, Porvorim, is organizing a History Hour session titled 'From Goa to Germany, via the Nazis and Gandhi' by Laxmi Tendulkar Dhaul at Thomas Stephens Konknni Kendr, Porvorim, on April 3 at 5.30pm.
Nursing assistantship course: Goa chamber of commerce & industry Women's Wing, in collaboration with Agnel Vocational Training Institute, is conducting a course on nursing assistantship for women for 24 weeks, beginning from April 14 from 9am to 1pm. The course will be 16 weeks of theory, in addition to eight weeks of internship training in hospitals. The course is for the benefit of women intending to pursue a career related to nursing assistantship. The course includes dissemination of conceptual knowledge of nursing along with practical skills in nursing. The participants will be assisted in seeking employment in hospitals/clinics in Goa. Goan fugdi contest: Jai-Hanuman Self-Help Group, Madel-Chorao, in collaboration with the directorate of art and culture, is jointly organizing an all-Goa traditional Goan fugdi contest on April 6 at Chorao. The contest will be organized in the newly constructed Devkikrishna hall at Madel-Chorao from 3.30pm onwards. First prize winners will be awarded cash prize of 5,555, second prize will be 3,333, third prize will be 2,222, and four consolation prizes of 1,001 each are up for grabs. Each participating troupe will be paid transportation charges 500. On this occasion, five senior women achievers will also be felicitated. Summer camp by Sangath: Let your child enjoy five days filled with fun through games, storytelling, art / craft and other activities. Workshop at Aldona: Directorate of art and culture, Panaji, in collaboration with St Thomas Higher Secondary School, Aldona, is conducting a 10-day workshop for students and adults.
