CBI official spokesperson Kanchan Prasad told the media that there is no need to reinvestigate the case as there is no new development or any special circumstance that warrants an investigation by the agency.

"We have not yet got any official information about the CBI stand. If the news is true then it is sorrowful development," said Rema. "If the CBI is not ready to investigate this case, we will approach the court and fight for justice until death. If the government has the willpower and genuine interest in having a CBI probe then the CBI will not be able to turn down the request for investigation."

The Kerala government approached the CBI after Rema's hunger strike in front of the state secretariat in Thiruvananthapuram entered the fifth day. She was demanding an inquiry into the high-level conspiracy behind the murder. Edachery police registered a case based on a complaint by Rema when the hunger strike began. A special investigation team probed the case and the Kerala government decided to approach the CBI with the team's report.
The SIT had proposed the CBI inquiry for several reasons including the financial dealings in the murder case, the accused getting shelter outside Kerala in Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka, the accused getting mobile phones and using the internet when they were in jail.'

The special court had sentenced 11 persons including three CPI-M area-level leaders in January this year. The court stated that it was a political murder. After the court verdict and the government stand to approach the CBI for investigation, the CPI-M central leadership expelled local leader K.C . Ramachandran from the party in connection with this case.

The CPI-M revealed that Ramachandran had a role in the murder case and the murder in view of personal enmity between Chandrasekharan and him. CPI-M leaders, including party general secretary Prakash Karat, said they acted against Ramachandran after a party-level secret inquiry in the case.
