KOLKATA: In a role reversal of sorts, a passenger, who got into a dispute with an auto driver, was arrested for severely hurting the driver. The incident was reported around 8pm near the Bansdroni crossing in south Kolkata. Netaji Nagar police have registered a case.
According to police, the accused Bablu Dutta is a resident of Bansdroni. "He had boarded an auto plying between Tollygunge and Garia and got off just after crossing Bansdroni.
The auto driver asked him to pay Rs 6. Dutta refused claiming the fare is only Rs 5. This led to an argument between the two and it was Dutta who ended up hitting and slapping the driver, the victim claimed. We have arrested the accused based on the FIR," said an investigating officer.
Police have arrested a burglar and a receiver involved in the Russa Road burglary that was reported two days ago. The burglar and recipient have been identified as Loknath Das and Chunilal Shaw respectively. "Almost 70% of the stolen property has been recovered," said DC (south) Murlidhar Sharma.
According to police, the victim, businessman Rahul Aggarwal, complained that silver ornaments, high-end clothes and copper utensils worth Rs 2.30 lakh had gone missing from his residence. Incidentally, another burglary had been reported in the same house on the day of Dhanteras last year in which items and cash worth Rs 11 lakh were stolen.
