I react to my wife doing intimate scenes: Indraneil
Ushasie Chakraborty, Puja and Indraneil Sengupta open up on their Friday film, fun on the sets and friendship.
Ushasie Chakraborty: Tell me Puja, why did you agree to do Dipayan Mandal and Rehena Parvin Jennys directorial launchpad, Teen Patti? Before that, let me give you my reasons. I loved my role as Gargi Sen a power woman. Though women-centric films are being made now, most characters lack that edge. Gargi happens to be Aryas (Indraneil Sengupta) business rival and my character oozes confidence.
In the film, Ill be seen as a business honcho, who is a go-getter. She can go to any length for success. But behind the power game is a woman, whos looking to silently prove herself in a competitive world.
Puja: For me, script is the king and we actors complement it. During narration, I just took a second to say yes as I havent been part of such a storybacked film till date. The film that unearths a murder mystery, also explores the complexity of modernday relationships.
Indraneil Sengupta: I heard the script after signing the film! I was convinced about the movie the first time Dipayan and Rehena narrated the storyline to me. This murder mystery revolves around the death of a young businessman and goes on to explore the relationship between two friends, Arya and Mukul, who come close after an early demise of their parents. The film takes a turn when one of them gets killed. Unfulfilled human desire and competition are the focus of the movie and the characters have grey shades. Theres an ensemble cast, including Ritwick Chakraborty, Rimjhim Mitra and Koushik Roy.

U: So Indraneil, how did your wife Barkha react to the film that has three heroines? Isnt she very possessive?
I: (Laughs) When you love someone, theres a sense of insecurity. It shows how much you care. I too am bound to react if I see Barkha doing intimate scenes with her male costars, but right now, she is busy doing megaserials. On my part, I keep doing films with new actresses and on the first day of the shoot, she would say, Another actress! But I enjoy it as it shows how much Barkha loves me.

P: A possessive partner is a problem as Im a woman. My boyfriend should trust me and understand my profession well.
U: Bang on, Puja. Female psychology is different. Men like possessive girlfriends/wives, but for us, love and possessiveness are two different things. We enjoy our space.
I: Thats why men are from Mars and women, from Venus. Lets get back to the film. The movie has a slim storyline, but gives a peek into the human mind.
P: This is a suspense movie, which reflects on the intricacies of relationships between friends, a mother and a daughter, a couple bound by faith and love
U: The story can be seen in flashback, as it unfolds after the murder. Every character in the film is a suspect, which is interesting. It might be the director duos first film, but they have done a commendable job.
I: Both Dipayan and Rehena had a clear vision and thats why the shoot went off smoothly. I have worked with many young directors, who have become big names now.
U: The actors too are doing well for themselves. So many of them are contesting Lok Sabha electionsit feels so good. Puja, did you congratulate Dev, our poll star?
P: I am so busy with my work that I had no time to congratulate Dev. He too must be keeping very busy...
I: I am neither interested in politics nor do I have the calibre to turn politician.
U: Back to the film, stories float around everytime there are two heroines in one movie. In Teen Patti, there are three, yet no one complained of catfights. Three cheers to us!
I: The directors are very clever to have chalked out the schedule in such a way that all three were never present on the sets at the same time (laughs).
P: Well, we are friends first, heroines later
