The Delhi High Court on Friday issued orders restraining the Anjuman-e-Haideri from holding any protests in the capital, except in the designated areas of Jantar Mantar and Ramlila Maidan.

The orders were issued after the Delhi Police filed a plea claiming that it had received “secret information” that the organisation, which was entrusted with the upkeep of the Dargah Shah-e-Mardan in Jor Bagh, was planning to hold protests near the karbala and other parts of city on March 31.

“Keeping in view the contentions advanced by Additional Solicitor General and the averments in the secret report as well as present applications, till further orders, Respondents 1 to 4 (office bearers of Ajuman-e-Haideri) and the organisation Anjuman-e-Haideri are restrained from protesting anywhere in Delhi in relation to the dispute over the karbala, except at pre-designated sites for peaceful protest — Jantar Mantar and Ramlila Maidan — after seeking due permission,” the court of Justice Manmohan said.

The trust has been locked in a legal tussle regarding a plot of land next to the Jor Bagh karbala. Two nurseries have come up on a site where old graves are located. The issue of ownership has led to several clashes between the owners of the nursery and the members of the Anjuman over the past two years.

Delhi Waqf Board counsel Mehmood Pracha and Anjuman counsel Tasneem Ahmadi denied the allegations made by police.
