SURAT: The BJP is facing an uphill task in Valsad Lok Sabha constituency where thousands of pamphlets are questioning the nomination of Dr KC Patel as party candidate. The pamphlet storm hit the constituency after veteran BJP leader Kanjibhai Patel was denied ticket by the party leadership.
Tens of thousands of pamphlets, being circulated by the supporters of Kanjibhai Patel in all the assembly segments of the constituency praise chief minister Narendra Modi as the man of development.
They wish him the very best on his quest to become the prime minister of India but at the same time remind him and the others the history of Valsad Lok Sabha seat. Supporters of Kanjibhai say it is the party that won this seat has formed the government at the centre in the past and the chances of Dr KC Patel look very bleak.
KC Patel had in 1995 joined hands with Shankersinh Vaghela, and later even became a minister in his government. He was allegedly charged with burning the photographs of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, LK Advani and Pandit Deendayal after he was defeated as an independent candidate from Valsad assembly seat.
Sources said Kanjibhai Patel has been moving around in different talukas of Valsad to garner the support of people, especially the tribal voters of Kaprada, Dharampur, Valsad and Umbergaon.
Party insiders said BJP state unit president, RC Faldu, and even Narendra Modi had reportedly contacted Kanjibhai Patel and asked him to ensure the party's victory from the 'lucky seat'.
Meanwhile, KC Patel told TOI, "I do not want to say anything on the pamphlets being distributed by my opponents. I just want to say such gimmicks will not stop me from winning Valsad Lok Sabha seat."
