GORAKHPUR: Dhruv Kumar Tripathi was elected from
Gorakhpur-Faizabad graduate constituency.
On Thursday. The counting of votes was held at National Buddha Museum. He was elected for the second time.
A candidate of Sharma group, he faced tough fight from his nearest rival Lal Bihari Yadav Azamgarhi. The latter got 8,764 votes and Tripathi bagged 9,250 votes. In the first preference votes, Yadav was ahead of Tripathi by 480 votes.
The second preference votes were also counted in which Tripathi emerged victorious by a narrow margin of 486 votes. As many as 623 votes were declared illegal as the teachers were not able to cast their votes properly.
Tripathi said that it is a victory of teachers and their faith on him. "I'll continue my struggle for the benefits of teachers."
