Court orders Akhil Gogoi health check-up
GUWAHATI: The district sessions judge court (Kamrup), while sending peasant leader Akhil Gogoi to judicial custody in two cases, have asked Guwahati Central Jail authorities to do a thorough medical check up of the leader. Akhil was complaining about a back pain in the court.
Earlier, the Kamrup (Metro) chief judicial magistrate's court transferred the trial of the two cases registered against Akhil in city's Khetri police station.
In these two cases, Akhil was accused of committing the offence of grabbing land under sections 4 and 5 of Assam Land Grabbing (Prohibition Act, 2010).
"The jail authorities informed the court that it had already asked the Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) authorities to provide doctors for Akhil's treatment inside jail. But the court said instead of bringing several doctors to jail, Akhil should undergo medical attention at GMCH. The court has asked for his medical reports on March 29," said Akhil's counsel Benudhar Nath.
Jail authorities are likely to bring Akhil to the GMCH in the next 24 hours.
