Fair trade award for Rewe

German trade group Rewe have been awarded the 'Fair trade award' for their pioneering role in the area of fair trade, report newspaper 'Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger' on their website. Competitor Kaufland was also commended on their commitment. Both shared first place in the category 'trade'. The prize was presented by German organisation TransFair.

The Rewe Group have always pioneered fair trade and Kaufland is the first German trader to offer more than 100 fair trade articles, said TransFair director Dieter Overath at the prize presentation in Berlin. The first prize in the category 'producers' went to textile company 3Freunde: "Working against the industry trend of moving production further away in order to avoid responsibility and cut prices. They have the vision to produce the perfect T-shirt," explained TransFair.
