JAMSHEDPUR: The district police on Wednesday found an improvised can bomb during patrolling in the Mahesduba village under Ghatshila police station, around 60 km from here early on Wednesday. Confirming the recovery, SSP Amol V Homkar, said, "A joint team of district police and CRPF found the 10 kg landmine while carrying out long-range patrolling in the Maoist-affected area.
It was planted recently."
Given that Jharkhand Vikas Morcha-Prajatantrik's MP Ajay Kumar, who will be contesting from the Jamshedpur parliamentary constituency for his second term, was on an election campaign during the recovery of the bomb, the party has demanded additional security for its candidate.
"In the wake of Wednesday's incident, we demand enhanced security cover for Kumar," said JVM-P central committee secretary Abhay Singh. He added that Kumar was on a campaign trail as per scheduled and prior information was given to the respective security agencies.
"Luckily, the bomb was recovered little before the motorcycle rally was about to commence," said C H Rammurthy, press secretary to the MP. "Intensive long-range patrolling is being carried out since the election campaigning got off and we have advised all political parties to inform the VIP monitoring cell and respective police stations about their programmes in advance so that effective arrangements can be made," the SSP said.
Meanwhile, an improvised explosive device was also found at Naudeeha Bazar in Palamu. SP Y S Ramesh said a bomb disposal squad has been sent to Naudeeha to fuse the IED.
