Delhi boy missing for four months traced to Mazgaon

The police said the teenager did not have a cell phone with him, thus making it difficult for them to trace him.

A teenager from Delhi, who reportedly left home and came to Mumbai in the hope of making money, was traced to Mazgaon on Wednesday.
His father had approached the Delhi Police, who launched an investigation into what they thought was a case of kidnapping.

According to police sources, the 15-year-old boy went missing from Delhi on November 20 last year, and his father approached the Delhi Police after repeatedly failing to reach him. A case of kidnapping was subsequently filed, and the police began investigation.

The police said the teenager did not have a cell phone with him, thus making it difficult for them to trace him.

A few days back, the father received a missed call from a Mumbai-based cell phone number, following which he informed the Delhi Police about it.

“We tried the number repeatedly, but received no response. We then found the location of the number when the call was made, and it was traced to Mazgaon in Mumbai. As it was the only information that we had, we decided to go to Mumbai,” said Police Sub-Inspector Mukesh Kumar of Mahindra Park police station, Delhi.

Festive offer

Kumar, along with two constables, reached Mumbai on Wednesday morning, and visited the Byculla police station, in whose jurisdiction the Mazgaon area falls.

“The Delhi Police asked us about the address that they received from the CDRs, and we led them to the area. The teenager was found in the Anjanwafi slum, along with some of his friends.

The teenager confessed that he came to Mumbai on his own and met some of his old friends, whom he knew when he used to stay in Kashmir, before shifting to Delhi,” said Police Sub-Inspector Sanjay Thakur of Byculla police station.

Thakur added that the boy had come to Mumbai in the hope to earn money, and worked at a flour mill and as a watchman.

Kumar and his team will leave for Delhi with the boy on Thursday.
