Hang loose, dearies!
Take a cue from Divergent star Shailene Woodley. Poke out your thumb and pinkie and do the shaka to say hello
So you have waved, folded your hands in a namaste, rocked the firm handshake, tipped your hat and done the nod. Now, it’s time to make a fist (not for a fight, silly!) and poke your thumb and pinkie out from two ends. Why? Known as the shaka or hang loose or (last one!) hang ten, it is the latest way of saying (wait for it...) “hello”!
A Hawaiian hand gesture, the shaka can denote ‘wassup’, ‘aloha’, ‘okay’, ‘it’s totally cool’ or ‘I completely agree with you’.
Alternatively, it can be also done as a sign of approval or acceptance of some action.
But that’s not all! The poster girl for the hang loose is none other than our latest girl crush — Divergent star Shailene Woodley. The 22-year-old PYT — much to the amusement of her fans — seems to do the shaka at almost all of her public appearances! So much so that most of her admirers advise her to “lose the hang ten”.
The gesture, which also doubles up as a cool pose for the camera, is a hot favourite among several other international celebs. The mighty list of supporters for the shaka includes US President Barack Obama and wife Michelle and soccer star Ronaldo de Assis Moreira aka Ronaldinho.
Even prominent Hollywood actors, such as Anne Hathaway, Gerard Butler, Channing Tatum, John Travolta, Adam Sandler and Jake Gyllenhaal have been spotted greeting fans or media with the shaka!
So, the next time you decide to hang around with your buddies, remember to hang loose!
