Walk held to create awareness about clean environment

The management of the Environmental Department organised walk to create awareness among the public about significance of cleanliness.
The walk was led by Director Colleges Prof Abdul Majeed, DEO Colleges Qazi Abdul Nasir, G C College Principal Dr Khalid Farooq Akbar, DFO Abdul Jabbar, RFO Tanveer Khan in which the participants were holding banners and placards to highlight the need for protecting earth for the survival of human race.
The walk started from Virtual University and after passing through different city roads concluded at College Chowk in which people from all walks of life including Government College students, Environmental Department, District Administration employees and representatives of social society participated.
Addressing the participants, DFO Abdul Jabbar said that an environment-friendly lifestyle should be adopted to avert global warming, destruction of ozone layer, acid rain, desertification and deforestation.
He said that only four per cent of the land in the country was covered with forests, which was alarmingly low and immediate steps were needed to improve it. “We should not look up to the government to do everything. The people need to fulfil their responsibility towards the country.” He said a small step by an individual, like planting a tree, can bring a major change in the environment.
He urged the students to take the responsibility of keeping their homes, streets and educational institutions clean besides persuading other fellow citizens to play their role in maintaining neat and clean environment so that a true welfare society could be established.
