At workers’ meet, silent Rahul Gandhi ‘packs a punch’

The storm lashed Kolkata for about half an hour. The Special Protection Group personnel in charge of the venue ruled out any meeting and even warned Rahul from proceeding towards the venue as it had been completely destroyed.

But Rahul arrived at the venue with PCC Adhir Chowdhury, senior leader Somen Mitra and several others and stayed there for five minutes waving at the crowd before leaving the venue without speaking.

The WBPCC leaders claimed that Rahul’s silent message was much more powerful than any spoken words as crowds appreciated his resolve and commitment. He had two meetings in West Bengal Tuesday — one in the morning at Nagrakata in Jalpaiguri district and the other in Kolkata.

Earlier in the day, at Nagrakata, Rahul had lashed out at Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government saying the money sent by the Centre never reached those for whom it was meant. “We send crores of rupees to the Bengal government. Its your money and not for the MPs and MLAs… But the sad fact is this money reaches Kolkata, but not you. We hope a day comes when this money, which is yours, reaches you. We are making efforts for that,” Rahul said.
